What is ‘Fear’ and what does it do to us? (Updated)

Tough question isn’t it? What is ‘Fear’?

For some, even approaching this question will lead to feelings of unease. They may try to bypass it, laugh it off. Some may even try to use their ‘knowing’ as a shield in a veiled attempt at denial.

I understand this completely. I once suffered from Generalised Anxiety Disorder. I know that even trying to read about it, to learn more, would often induce anxiety and fear.

I know many are quick to shout ‘ Its not real!’. ….. Well yes, it is! What isnt real, is what you think it is… To say it is not real is rejecting and denying your very experience. It is a bypass and shield and the same as sticking your head in the sand.

A Rising Sense of Hopelessness

As it sets in, your limbs start to feel heavy, like it is suddenly becoming a burden, this thing that no longer seems to serve any value. A sense of hopelessness starts to set in as an inward sigh of resignation sounds.

You know there is no point in doing it yet again, yet what else is there? There is a sense of duty, that even though you know its pointless, its what you need/should/have to do…. or even ‘might as well, its not like there is anything else’.

Working Through a Self-Perception

I seem to be caught in this state of ‘shallowness’ towards this whole connection. How I feel about this, or how I think about how I feel.  That to feel such things are shallow. To want, desire such things. For this to be important emotionally. I know I have read time and time again about shallow feelings in connections. The desire and want, as things best moved away from and being ‘lesser’ in some way. (more…)
